Business Skills for Small-Scale Seed Producers Developing
a capacity among farmers and communities to produce seed for sale can
be one potential solution to the Africa-wide problem of access to good
quality seed, as seed companies often target only those easy-to-reach
farmers who are most commercially oriented and NGOs may distribute seed
through financially unsustainable approaches. Training needs to focus
not only on agronomic and seed health aspects but also on business
skills and organizational development. Two new manuals in this series
are designed to support small-scale farmers, business people, schools
and churches with principles and procedures for establishing
small-scale seed enterprises for various crops. Handbook 2 is written
for farmers who have no formal training or experience in this area;
Handbook 3 is a guide for trainers who are supporting small-scale seed
enterprise development. Authors: David S and Oliver B (CIAT) Publication: 2002 Web (check for updates!): http://www.ciat.cgiar.org/africa/index.htm (new window will open) Suggested citation: David S and
