Grant Description
Impact of using participatory methods to solve natural resource management issues in the East African Highlands. This project will support a research fellow specialized in rural sociology/anthropology. The aim of this project is to conduct research work in a more participatory and consistent way with the residents or stakeholders, moving the process from where it is towards a more collegial type of relationship. It is in these "pilot" areas that new tools and technologies will be tried and tested. Once success has been determined, strategies will be developed to extrapolate and extend processes and technologies beyond these areas. Major outputs of participatory monitoring envisioned are:

  1. Demonstrated capacity to visualize change, express and share learning objectives, to monitor learning and understand the effects of learning using appropriate assessment processes and tools
  2. Demonstrated ability to test and assess major AHI hypotheses concerning modes of working (this includes participatory research methods)
  3. Increased efficiency of various partners in the generation and dissemination of technologies
  4. Improved partnership arrangements (including resource sharing)
