What's
New?
The current version available free from the web is version 3.0. To download
the model, please click here.
The current version has the following new features:
1.
Bulk Density Pedotransfer and Soil Organic Matter Pedotransfer
A new sheet in WaNuLCAS.xls ‘Pedo SOM’ is provided to help
users generate Corganic /Creference value and to derive S_BDBDRefDecay
value.
Corganic /Creference is a ratio between actual Corganic measured in the
field with a reference Corganic value for forest top soils of the same
texture and pH.. This value can be used as an indicator of how soil organic
matter had changed over the years at the current site. This value is an
input parameter to initialize soil organic matter using Methods 2 (see
Soil Organic Matter module)
S_BDBDRefDecay
is parameter value indicating the rate of soil bulk density compaction
over time. This changes could be due to management or soil structure degradation.
The new sheet helps to calculate BDBDRef value, that is the ratio between
measure soil bulk density with a reference value of bulk density at the
same Corganic content. There are two types of reference values, at agriculture
soils and at forest soils (BDBDRef1 and BDBDRef2). Using these two ratio
values we can have a first indication on what would be a reasonable value
of S_BDBDRefDecay .
2.
Tree Phenology
This is an option to impose a phenological pattern on a tree
based on the time of year that leaf flush starts and litterfall is completed.
Using this option, users will be able to model the variation of water
use efficiency between different tree with different leaf age. For example,
a comparison between trees that are evergreen and those that regularly
shed leaves in a dry or cold season.
3.
New algorithm to calculate tree root density.
We added another option: ‘Root Type 3’ to calculate tree root
density. This is a new option to describe the dynamics of fine tree root
density in soil voxels (various layers and zones of the soil) and the
consequences for coarse root development to keep up with the transport
demand. A stand alone version of the tree root dynamics under this option
is also available in download section. The stand-alone version can be
used to explore module sensitivity and changes on root dynamics as the
consequences of changes with time of uptake from various zones and layers.
4.
Updates Soil Structure dynamics module
This module is further developed to take into account the effect of macro
fauna (earthworm) and litter layer in the dynamics of soil structure.
5.
New module on Parasite
A new module ‘Loranthus’ is available to simulate parasite
dynamics in the system
6.
We have also remove bugs and refine equations.
To find out more, please check the list of changes available in a downloadable
file (changes.pdf). See also tips and hints
to ease you in working with WaNuLCAS.
7.
New Module on Green House Gas Emission (N2O)
8.
Several new help files
Several new help files are added to explain various modules in WaNuLCAS.
See the download menu for more information. This version included Green
House Gas (N2O) emissions.
