Abstract:
Evaluating the impact of management decisions on productivity multi-species uneven-aged forest
stands is a challenge. A Spatially-Explicit Individual Forest Simulator (SExI-FS) was developed as a tool for
predicting the growth of a stand and here included the productivity model of some species including Durio
zibethinus (durian yields) and Hevea braziliensis (latex yields). The productivity model is using both ecological
knowledge and biophysics information, considering the light and space competition.
Some scenarios of rubber-based agroforestry systems was tested, from simple system (regular interplanting)
to complex agroforestry system (randomize spacing). The result shows fruit yield is higher in regular
plantation and lower in the spatially random planting design, while latex yield shows the opposite pattern.
Both yields are intermediate in the random clustered scenario. Wood volume on the other hand is not affected
by spacing and the stand density scenarios.
