Abstract:
Indonesia has experienced unprecedented landcoverchanges over the past few decades Deforestation, forest degradation, peatlandconversion and burning have drawn globalattention owing to the significant amounts ofemission of the greenhouse gases that causeglobal warming Indonesia has declared its commitment to reduceemissions by 26–41% by 2020. More than 50% ofthe emission reduction target is intended to comefrom the land-use, land-use-change and forestrysector (LULUCF) A monitoring, reporting and validating system isnecessary to compare the performance of climatechangemitigation actions against past emissions Credible past emission estimates are required, forwhich we need two basic data sets: (1) historicalland-use changes; and (2) emission factors foreach land-use change, before and after thechange
