Abstract:
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report concludes that climate change is becoming a present reality as warming of the climate system has become unequivocal (IPCC 2007). All general circulation models (GCMs) predict an enhanced hydrological cycle and an increase in area-averaged annual mean rainfall in Asia. Th is is expected to exacerbate pressure on the region’s natural resources that are already under severe stress from rising population. Developing countries will be most vulnerable, as they have limited resources and capacity to adaptto the eff ects of climate change.
