Better livelihoods through tree nursery training in The Gambia

Farmers in the Lower Badibou District of the North Bank Region, The Gambia, have been receiving training in tree nursery management as part of a project to promote agroforestry.

An article in The Daily Observer reports that farmers are learning new skills and knowledge in tree nursery preparation and management as part of efforts to combat desertification, increase farm production and build resilience to the impacts of climate change.

The training has been organized through the Kerr Ardo Community Adult Development Skills Centre (KACDSC ) with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The KACDSC has raised 20,000 seedlings of different forest species to support member communities in transplanting trees along farm boundary and woodlots. Through the project, 10 communities will be supported to create woodlots that provide fuel wood and building materials.
