The World Bank’s Livelihood’s Support Project will help 200 community groups in Kenya’s Upper Tanna Catchment through a grant of KSh 135 million (around USD 1.6 million).
Kenya’s Standard reports that more than 600 groups have benefitted from the program in the past three years, with assistance in the areas of agroforestry, poultry and dairy farming.
The groups are all involved in income-generating projects which improve their livelihoods as well as conserve water catchments and ease pressure on natural resources.
“The successful implementation of the project has inspired confidence in the donor who has increased the number of groups funded from the initial 69 in 2010 to 222 last year and 226 this year,” says Daniel Rotich, NRM Livelihoods’ Project Manager.
