WFP and Indonesia cooperate on food security - climate change efforts

The World Food Programme (WFP) and Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) pledged to enhance cooperation during a workshop on “Strengthening Food Security and Community Resilience Against Disaster and Climate Change."

The residents of West Nusa Tenggara, like much of Indonesia, rely on small-scale agriculture and with future climatic changes predicted, they are likely to become more vulnerable to food shortages.

Since 2008, WFP’s Food-For-Asset programmes in have provided food incentives to more than 73,000 people in the region and rehabilitated 4,000 hectares of degraded land by planting close to 6 million trees - both in agroforestry and mangroves.

Future efforts are expected to focus on enhancing resilience and improving overall food security. Particular attention will be given to strengthening the link between policy and practice, and contribute to knowledge sharing that develops sustainable and efficient food security programmes in at-risk areas.
