Vietnam seeks foreign investment in agriculture

According to a story in Vietnam News, the country has foreign investments worth US$3.3 billion in more than 500 successful agroforestry and fisheries projects.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is now looking at a number of strategies to attract further foreign investment in the agricultural sector, including developing a legal framework and simpler administrative procedures for investment in agroforestry and fisheries.

The Ministry is also investigating the potential for private-public partnerships and considering developing a specific model for the agricultural sector.

More than half of the current investment in agriculture comes from other Asian countries, including South Korea, Japan, mainland China and Thailand.
