Vietnam agroforestry exports soar

According to an article on the Vietnamese BaoMoi website, the country’s turnover of agroforestry and fisheries exports is expected to grow more than US$27.5 billion this year, an increase of 9.7 per cent.

Among the top earners are coffee, with 1.76 million tonnes exported in 2012 worth US $3.74 billion, a rise of 40% in volume and 36% in value from the previous year. The US and Germany import 12% of this each.

With 223,000 tonnes exported in 2012, Vietnam is the world’s number one cashew nut exporter earning US $1.48 billion.

While exports of pepper fell, its value rose by 9.6 per cent with shipments going to the US, China and the Netherlands among other countries.
