Urban agriculture gaining popularity

With higher food prices, greater unemployment and government and private food programs struggling to feed hungry families, more and more city dwellers are looking to urban agriculture, including animal husbandry, aquaculture, agroforestry and horticulture.

An article in the McCook Daily Gazette says urban agriculture is providing economically disadvantaged people in the US with an opportunity to help feed themselves, their families and neighbors with fresh, locally grown vegetables, fruits, meat and protein.

Urban farming is becoming popular on vacant lots which are now being used as mini farms to produce food for cash production or self-sufficiency
