The value of trees to India’s environment and economy was a recurrent topic at the World Congress of Agroforestry in Delhi in February 2014. Two new books further explore the contribution of trees and agroforestry to the country’s wild and agricultural ecosystems.
Agroforestry Systems in India: Livelihood Security & Ecosystem Services marks the first step in compiling authoritative information on agroforestry research across the different regions of India.
India has been at the forefront of research into agroforestry, both as an approach to ensuring food security and in building resilient environments. Almost all forms of agroforestry exist across India in ecological zones that vary enormously in climate and in the land management challenges they face.
This multi-author volume examines how agroforestry can help to meet India’s increasing demand for food and fodder, providing details of agroforestry practices classified according to different system ecologies, problems and solutions.
Agroforestry Systems in India will be of tremendous value to researchers, scientists, students and policy makers in agroforestry and related agricultural and environmental sciences. It strongly supports India’s new national agroforestry policy.
