Tanzania’s ambitious climate plan

Tanzania’s is seeking to implement a Climate-smart Agriculture plan that will invest Sh 1 trillion (around US $580 million) in activities to improve the resilience of agriculture in the country to the negative impacts of climate change.

The Citizen reports that the Agricultural Climate Response Plan (ACRP) involves measure to improve agricultural land and water management, accelerate the uptake of climate-smart agriculture, reduce the impact of climate-related shocks through improved risk management and strengthen knowledge and systems to target climate action.

The plan, which was announced during a National Climate Change and Agriculture Workshop organized by the government, Care International, World Agroforestry Centre and FAO, will require considerable domestic and foreign funding.

During the workshop, participants discussed experiences with climate-smart agriculture in Tanzania, policy implications, ways of securing funding for the plan and different methods for scaling up adoption.
