Social media, agriculture and youth

Several avenues available for social media enthusiasts to contribute to agricultural development are highlighted on the Food Tank website.

Among the upcoming events looking to build social media teams is the World Congress on Agroforestry, to be held in Delhi, India in February 2014, jointly organized by the World Agroforestry Centre, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Indian National Research Center for Agroforestry. Other events include the Forests Asia Conference in May, in Jakarta, organized by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR).

One organization taking a lead in social media reporting of strategic agriculture events is Young Professionals in Agricultural Research for Development (YPARD). It encourages young professionals to join such initiatives not only to involve youth but also to ensure they have a voice in debates about issues that will impact their future.

There are also ongoing opportunities in social media related to agricultural development such as the YPARD Social Media Team, Social Media 4 Nonprofit (SM4NP) and the CGIAR Social Media Support team.
