Both the Seychelles Nation and eGlobal report on the experiences of Seychelles delegates to the 2nd Global Conference on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change held in Vietnam in early September.
Special Advisor to the Minister for Natural Resources, Antoine-Marie Moustache, said the conference had “broadened our knowledge on many issues and agricultural aspects and allowed us to better understand how big countries seeking to provide help for development in agriculture.”
The conference aimed to bring together world decision-makers to discuss and present their perspectives on climate change and food security through agricultural production. In particular, it sought to promote climate-smart agricultural techniques such as conservation agriculture, agroforestry and integrated forest, farm and fish systems.
The conference provided an opportunity for countries to network with potential international cooperating partners (ICPs) and the Seychelles saw this as a way of exploring how these partners could provide assistance in reviving its agricultural sector.
“We aim to explore all opportunities to lobby for financial reinvestment in the national agricultural sector,” said Moustache.
At the conclusion of the conference, a guiding statement on climate-smart agriculture was prepared and will be further reviewed at the Third Global Conference, which will take place in South Africa in 2013.
