A recent meeting in Kampala heard how Uganda’s environmental policies are conflicting and preventing effective biodiversity conservation.
New Vision reports on the meeting, organized by the World Agroforestry Centre and World Vision, to discuss biodiversity conservation and the restoration of indigenous tree species to combat climate change.
Attending the meeting were farmers, biodiversity experts and other environment stakeholders. They outlined how national policies concerning the environment, forestry and investment were un-coordinated and not harmonized, therefore “failing environmental protection and ultimately failing to counter climate change”.
The participants appealed to legislators to review these policies to ensure they are not in conflict with one another and develop harmonized strategies that promote environmental issues.
