Five years on from the start of an agroforestry, livelihood and infrastructure project in the Philippines, evaluation will begin to determine the project’s impact on farmers and their communities.
Sun Star reports on progress with the Cordillera Highland Agriculture Resource Management (CHARM) Program 2 funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). A recent Knowledge and Learning Market was held to discuss policy issues relating to the project, including indigenous knowledge, resource management and impacts of climate change in the region.
Infrastructure projects are currently being finalized - including postharvest facilities and roads that will link farmers to markets - and a total of 6,000 hectares have been reforested through the project with pine trees and fruit trees. Farmers are also receiving livelihood assistance.
