Paper grown in agroforestry systems goes on display

To meet the growing demand for sustainably sourced paper and office supplies, manufacturers are showcasing their latest eco-friendly products to trade buyers in Dubai this week.

Among the products on display is a paper brand manufactured using fibre produced in agroforestry systems in Thailand. The manufacturers claim the product is “self-sufficient in wood, water and renewable biomass power.” It is grown by farmers on the barren strips of land surrounding paddy fields.

The company has established its own rainwater reservoir to supply the water needed for paper production and it makes use of waste from the pulping processing (such as oversized wood chips and tree bark) to produce renewable electricity for the mill, the nearby industrial park and a community of 400,000 homes.
