Organic farming and agroforestry show promise in western Kenya

A Kenyan charity which is promoting activities such as agroforestry, organic farming and water conservation is receiving praise for its successes.

AfricaNews reports on the activities of Sustainable Organic Farming & Development Initiatives (SOFDI) which was founded by Swiss woman, Brigitte Frey. The charity aims to improve the lives of communities in western Kenya through providing guidance and support for agricultural initiatives that increase production and improve livelihoods.

With a focus on soya beans, goat keeping and water conservation, SOFDI also runs school programs in partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Education. Students study the theory behind growing soya beans, organic farming and agroforestry then put it into practice.
