New interactive DVD on conservation agriculture and agro-ecology

Combining text, videos, didactics diagrams and photos, the practices of conservation agriculture and agro-ecology, including agroforestry, are presented in this new DVD.

The challenges facing sustainable agricultural development in a changing climate require farming systems to undergo significant technical change. This interactive DVD looks at techniques such as direct seeding and mulch-based conservation agriculture, drawing on worldwide examples and a particular focus on the experience of Madagascar, where numerous studies have resulted in a wide range of farming systems.

Conservation agriculture and agro-ecology aim to boost the ecological efficacy of farming systems by copying natural, particularly forest ecosystems, and optimizing existing bio-geochemical processes.

The DVD can be used on PC, Mac and Linux systems. It was funded by the Agence française de développement under a research project on agro-ecology, implemented by the Groupement Semis Direct de Madagascar, in partnership with Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD).
