New infographic launches Call to Action on Agriculture and Climate Change

A new infographic titled “The Story of Agriculture and Climate Change: The Road We’ve Traveled” maps the history of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) since its establishment in 1992, and the progress of the agricultural sector in addressing climate-change challenges throughout the negotiations.

Launched ahead of ‘Agriculture, Landscapes and Livelihoods Day 5’ (ALL-5 Day) on 3rd December, the infographic accompanies a Call to Action to Put Agriculture on the Agenda of COP 18. The 18th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change  (COP 18) is currently underway in Doha, Qatar.

The Call to Action calls for further consideration of a Work Programme on Agriculture under the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technology Advice (SBSTA).

It envisages a mandate for SBSTA to research, document and share knowledge of improved agricultural practices to inform decision-making around agriculture and climate change to Parties as they prepare national strategies to address climate change.

The development of the Call and infographic is led by Farming First in partnership with the CGIAR Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security research program (CCAFS) and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT). World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is a partner in the effort.
