An ambitious plan to plant 20 million trees under agroforestry systems will get underway soon in India.
The Deccan Herald reports that the forest department will provide farmers with discounted seedlings and incentives during the first 3 years of the trees’ growth. The project is being jointly implemented by the forest department and a number of voluntary organisations, with a goal of planting 350 trees in each village. There will be a specific focus on farms near national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
