A newly established agroforestry centre in the province of Savannakhet, Laos PDR aims to identify the potential and demand for agroforestry in the province to improve the livelihoods of local communities.
The Vientiane Times reports on a visit by Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, to the Nongtao Agro-Forestry Development and Service Centre in Kaysone Phomvihane district which has been established under a 5 year cooperative project between Laos and Thailand.
The Centre sits on a 57 hectare site near Phonsim village and comprises 7 units: animal husbandry, fishery, agriculture, rice cultivation, land development, irrigation, and forestry. Combined, these will provide technical training for officials and farmers in the province.
