Latest achievements in climate-smart agriculture

As the climate changes, can we achieve food security, while reducing rural poverty, improving health and nutrition, and sustainably managing our natural resources?

The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) outlines research towards this goal in its 2013 Annual Report.

In the past year, CCAFS and its many partners helped advance climate-smart agriculture in 20 countries around the world, though close collaborations with farmers, civil society, governments and researchers.

Among these partners is the World Agroforestry Centre. The report profiles work by the Centre to adopt climate-smart agriculture in the East African Dairy Development programme as well as collaborative efforts in China with the government, private sector and herders to develop a method for cost effectively accounting and monitoring carbon sequestration in grasslands.

The report outlines how research is making a difference, through farmer training, policy engagement, communication and practical action.
