India this week signed two agreements that will see collaboration in agroforestry and agricultural research with international institutes.
Commodity Online reports that the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) signed a four-year workplan with the World Agroforestry Centre aimed at utilising agroforestry to address the impacts of climate change and provide secure livelihoods to smallholder farmers.
To be implemented through national agricultural research systems in the country, the agreement will focus on developing technologies that are tailored to the needs of resource-poor farmers.
A separate agreement between ICAR and the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (RAAS) is expected to see both organizations collaborate on research, training, improved production techniques and extension activities. They will exchange germplasm, breeding material, scientific information and methodologies.
