ICRAF scientist to strengthen agroforestry at Wageningen U.

ICRAF’s chief science advisor has an additional new role: Meine van Noordwijk was recently honoured with an appointment as part-time Chair in Agroforestry by Wageningen University’s Plant Production Group.

In this new position at his alma mater, Meine will work to increase the visibility of research and education in agroforestry as part of plant production systems. He will also contribute to international debates on various sustainable development issues, and their links with agroforestry. These issues include food security; sustainable food production; sustainable conservation of natural resources; carbon sequestration by trees; climate change; and the provision of agricultural ecosystem services in multifunctional landscapes. The position is set to take up around 10 percent of Meine’s work-year.

Congratulating Meine, World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) director general Tony Simons called the appointment an “appropriate acknowledgement to our field of agroforestry.”
