Dennis Garrity, Senior Fellow at the World Agroforestry Centre and UN Drylands Ambassador, discusses farmer-managed natural regeneration (FMNR) and solutions to climate-proofing agriculture during an interview with World Vision Malawi.
“As we are talking right now, there are examples of farmer managed natural regeneration from north to south,” says Garrity, explaining how it can be done easily and inexpensively. FMNR involves identifying useful trees that come up in fields naturally and managing them into fully grown trees.
Garrity speaks about the importance of transferring knowledge between countries to create effective solutions that make agriculture work for smallholders and their families; importantly the “children of the land” so that they can be educated and create a brighter future.
