Food security at the local and global scale will come under the spotlight when the First International Conference on Global Food Security takes place from 29 September to 2 October 2013 in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands.
Recent research and insights on food security will be presented at the conference, with discussions around the trade-offs that occur with competing environmental, economic or social objectives. Among the keynote speakers will be Meine van Noordwijk, Chief Science Advisor with the World Agroforestry Centre.
The conference, which is being organized by Elsevier and an International Scientific Committee, promises to take an interdisciplinary approach with parallel sessions looking at aspects such as nutritional security, lost harvest and wasted food, and sustainable intensification.
Conference chairs, Professor Ken Giller and Professor Martin van Ittersum from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, say: “For the first time an international conference brings together researchers from key disciplines with the aim to discuss a very daunting question we all face today: how to feed our growing global population?”
In conjunction with the conference, Elsevier is launching a new journal, Global Food Security.
