Our current predominant model of agricultural production is “not suitable for the new food security challenges of the 21st century,” says José Graziano da Silva, Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO).
Graziano da Silva was speaking at the International Forum on Agriculture and Climate Change, organized by the Government of France in the lead up to the December 2015 climate change conference.
He called for a paradigm shift in agriculture towards food systems that are more sustainable, inclusive and resilient.
Climate-smart agriculture was highlighted by Graziano da Silva as able to make farming practices more adaptive and resilient to environmental pressures while decreasing farming's impacts on the environment.
