Martyrs of Uganda children’s home in Machakos County was the recipient of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) exercise carried out by the Evergreen Agriculture project in Machakos.
The activity which was conducted on the 24th of May, 2014 aimed at cementing the cordial relations enjoyed between the project and the various partners in the county during the three years of the project’s existence.
According Mr. Vincent Rabach, the leader of the Evergreen Agriculture delegation “The project settled on visiting the children’s home because we wanted to utilize the proceeds of the activities undertaken in the county to give hope and show compassion to the young generation coming from disadvantaged backgrounds and may feel neglected by the society.”
The centre which first opened its doors in the year 2005 as a project of the Catholic Diocese of Machakos is home to 80 children. Sister Sabrina Parolini, the sister in charge of the centre disclosed that. “The 80 children hosted in our home are selected according to the following criteria: total orphans without guardians, orphans being taken care of by old grandparents, children having mentally challenged parents and lastly needy cases coming from hardship areas”.
She further explained that the centre prides itself for transforming the lives of young ones through nurturing them academically, spiritually and socially to enable them become self-reliant and agents of hope in the society.
Activities that graced the day included: motivational speeches, song and dance session, drama presentation and tree planting session where a total of 50 seedlings of different varieties were planted in remembrance of the occasion.
The Evergreen Agriculture project gave a donation of 6 bags of maize, a bag of cowpeas, half a bag of dolichos, 20 litres cooking oil, a bundle of wheat flour and clothes.
