East Africa Region goes Lakeside to build a stronger team

The East Africa region recently held a team building session in Naivasha. Thirty seven regional staff from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania as well as representatives from human resources, ITC, GRPs and finance came together at Simba Lodge from 15th to 17th November 2012. The purpose of the two days away was to refresh, re-energize and get to know each other better.

Activities were well facilitated by Peak Performance and led participants through a process of self-realisation and goal setting, interactive team building exercises, role-plays and early morning exercise. On the second day participants looked at work performance and finally establishing a new team plan for how the region wants to work together in the future.

The participants were separated into three groups; researchers, administration and regional coordination and asked to reflect on what is working well and what areas could be improved. Each group then developed an actionable plan to improving selected areas of their work.

The region also developed a team mission to express how they hoped to work together which was “a cohesive dedicated team for outstanding performance”.

In his opening and closing remarks, the Regional coordinator appreciated the staff for their dedication, stable funding and future of EA region. He however stressed still areas that we the region needs to think through. (Publications, resource mobilization, capacity building, etc

The feeling by the end of the two days was a great sense of camaraderie and a strong team of people who had mutual respect and understanding. With this the East Africans were ready to take up the challenges that were ahead of their team.
