A sophisticated tissue culture laboratory is to be built in Vietnam specifically for agroforestry.
Supported by Denmark’s development cooperation, Danida, the laboratory will assist in producing higher yielding and faster growing agroforestry seedlings.
SandAsia reports that the laboratory is to be built by Thuy Son JSC, a private processor and exporter of wood chips, with the aim of making agroforestry commercially viable for smallholder farmers in Vietnam. The company has already established a nursery which produces 8 million hybrid acacia saplings each year which are distributed to smallholder farmers across the Mekong Delta.
