Citizens to have their say on biodiversity

The World Agroforestry Centre and partners are organising a forum to gain opinions from ordinary citizens in the Philippines about biodiversity.

To be held in Los Baños, Laguna on 15 September, the event is part of the global project, World Wide Views on Biodiversity, aimed at garnering citizen’s views on biodiversity issues in order to inform national and international policymakers.

Dr. Rodel Lasco, Philippines country coordinator for the World Agroforestry Centre, said the forum will collect the views of 100 citizens from all over the Philippines on biodiversity.

Not only will participants learn more about biodiversity issues, they will have the opportunity to express views that contribute to the first strategic goal of the Aichi Targets and the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity 2011-2020.

The Philippine forum is jointly organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (DENR-PAWB), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Danish Board of Technology and Center for Biological Diversity.
