Centre director to feature at SusCon 2012

Does the green economy provide the whole answer? This is the question to be addressed by a panel of experts, including Director General of the World Agroforestry Centre, Dr Tony Simons, at the International Conference on Sustainable Business and Consumption (SusCon).

Discussions will centre on the social dimensions of a Green Economy, with Simons expected to talk about the economic situation of millions of smallholder farmers in developing countries. He will focus on Payment for Ecosystem Services schemes through which farmers can receive cash or in-kind rewards for carrying out activities, such as afforestation, which improve or maintain ecosystem services such as clean water and erosion control.

The panel discussion will be followed by a further analysis on the role of PES in protecting biodiversity.
