Call for better adaptation and mitigation strategies in Central America

Farmers in Central America have banded together to call for a regional law to outline the mechanisms by which each state will implement climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.

Inter Press Service carries a report on a recent conference in San Salvador on ‘building a regional strategy for adaptation to the climate by the small-scale agroforestry sector’ during which farming and forestry cooperatives and associations discussed a regional approach to dealing with the impacts of climate change, and for learning how to sustainably manage natural resources.

Participants would like to see a law introduced which offers economic incentives for environmentally-friendly agricultural and forest management practices, incentives for technology transfer in environmental questions, and strengthening of technical knowledge among rural communities.
