Botsawana’s Daily News reports that Vice President, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe, has called for innovative farming practices in the country such as conservation agriculture, agroforestry, integrated crop and livestock and integrated irrigation aquaculture to boost food production while limiting impact on ecosystems.
He challenged Batswana to find innovative ways of farming that use less water and lead to reduced pollution and contamination of water sources.
“All Batswana could play a role in the identification of alternative water resources that could be used for agriculture,” he said.
In the article, the Vice President is further quoted on plans to draw additional water from Chobe/Zambezi River to supply water-deficient centres in eastern Botswana and on proposed multi-use dams.
