A local Indian beer made from the leaves of the ‘salfi’ tree is substantially increasing the incomes of tribespeople in the state of Chhattisgarh.
The International Business Times reports that the beer, known as ‘desi’ is in high demand with people coming from far and wide to enjoy the new non-alcoholic drink.
A seller can earn up to US $645 in a season selling the beer extracted from one tree. Seizing the opportunity, local villagers have begun planting more salfi trees.
