A workshop organized by the World Agroforestry Centre and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University has called for scientists to be active in making food production in Bangladesh sustainable.
According to an article in Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the country is “losing over 2,000 hectares of land each year due to the impact of climate change” and salinity is turning large areas into desert.
Environment and Forest Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud challenged scientists to develop technologies that would help Bangladesh to tackle these natural disasters.
The workshop was attended by representatives of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Kenya and Sri Lanka.
