Ambitious plans to boost agriculture in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is set to implement 2 major agricultural development programs that are aimed at pulling one-fifth of the country out of poverty.

An article in The Independent outlines how the 10 major components of these programs include the development of crops, agroforestry, horticulture, fisheries, livestock, nutrition, water management, polder management, drainage improvement, agribusiness as well as facilitating farm loans and building the capacity of farmers.

The initiatives will focus on the southern region of Bangladesh and have been developed with assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). They seek to enhance the capacity of farmers and improve water management and agri-business.
