Zimbabweans are being urged to plant fruit trees to reduce imports, create employment and reduce deforestation, supported by the Air Force.
All Africa reports that during a tree planting event at the headquarters of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, Commander Air Marshal Perrance Shiri discussed how planting fruit trees would save the country millions of dollars annually.
He said the Air force would play its part in achieving a mini-fruit revolution in Zimbabwe through setting up a planting exercise across all its bases which would extend to surrounding communities and farmers.
“The commercialization of fruit trees and non-fruit trees is in-sync with Government's thrust for a thriving agroforestry sector," said Shiri. It would also create much-needed employment opportunities and help to reduce deforestation.
