India commemorated National Agroforestry Day on 8 May with the National Research Centre for Agroforestry (NRCAF) celebrating its silver jubilee.
“Agroforestry can contribute significantly to meet the deficits of fuel, fodder, timber, accelerate economic growth and help in poverty alleviation, women empowerment and livelihood support,” said Dr. D.N. Tewari Former Director General of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education.
Tewari urged for the development of agroforestry policies and launched a national mission on agroforestry.
A story on the Indian Council of Agricultural Research website reports on a two-day function that saw an exhibition of agroforestry technologies and involved the Centre, farmers, researchers and students. The NRCAF conducts research and development in relation to agroforestry, linking with farmers and state agencies to disseminate technologies technology.
