With a growing demand for traditional medicines in India leading to exploitation of forests, there is a call for cultivation of medicinal plants through agroforestry.
The New Indian Express reports that the state government will increase its budget allocation for Ayurveda and other traditional medicines by Rs100 crore (approximately USD 1.6 million).
Ninety per cent of the raw material for traditional medicines comes from forest. The government is now encouraging more farmers to take up the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and also providing subsidies.
