An article on the website of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research reports on a visit by staff from the World Agroforestry Centre to projects in the Parasai-Sindh watershed in Jhansi district as part of Farm Innovators Day and World Toilet Day.
Dr. Javed Rizvi, Regional Director, and Dr. Rajendra Choudhary, Senior Liaison & Monitoring Officer, commended efforts to retain water in wells and dams, establish teak-based agroforestry on field boundaries and homestead agroforestry.
Dr S K Dhyani, Director of the National Research Centre for Agroforestry (NRCAF) explained to the visitors that watershed management and alternative land-use systems, such as agroforestry, were a viable option in the region that ensured water availability as well as helping to keep people farming the land rather than migrating away.
