(Africa Science News) Wary as Mathenge shrubs Invade Busia County

Bunyala Sub County in Busia County has become the next victim of Mathenge shrub invasion after Garisa, Baringo, Mandera Tana River Counties. The plant has been spotted in upper parts of Budalangi. Mathenge (Prosopis juliflora) is a fast growing and drought resistance plant that originated from South and Central America, which if not tamed early is a threat to agriculture due its ability to colonize an area.

According to Ezekiel Moseri, Busia County director of the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), Mathenge plant is not good in an area where agriculture is key to residents. Read more
