Preface

This workshop report reflects the active participation by all concerned, which we trust, does justice to the diversity and different experiences of the participants. Readers will find summaries and syntheses of discussions that took place throughout the workshop. There were many presentations, but this report accentuates from the working group discussions as they yielded the most important results we want to share with readers.

The report does not attempt to be critical of specific policies, but rather uses them as illustrative examples of biodiversity-related policies, strategies and plans for the six countries represented at the workshop. It is important to be as specific and direct about the gaps and constraints so that we can find the most effective ways forward.
