The workshop organizers from the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) and the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) would like to thank the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for its leadership in the area of biodiversity and for its financial support. The support made it possible to bring together political and technical experts from six countries in eastern and southern African for a very successful workshop.

We are also grateful to all the participants from Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. They provided a diverse forum for a lively intellectual exchange; they prepared excellent presentations enabling the sharing of valuable experiences; and led the stimulating discussions and reflections in the workshop.
