5.3 Zonal Research and Training Activities

Tropical Africa

The outstanding event for the region as a whole was the meeting in Nairobi of ICRAF and three Africa-based IARCs (ICRISAT, IITA and ILCA) to discuss their activities in agroforestry research, vis-a-vis a coordinated programme. A set of eight specific areas of cooperation for 1987 (covering a range of activities from experimental methods to training) and an expressed interest in designing a Programme for Agroforestry Research by International Centers in Africa (PRO-AFRICA) indicate their commitment to increasing efforts for a concerted cooperative effort in the field.
